Knee Pains: Causes And Remedies

Knee pains are not acute injuries, we can favor neuromuscular bandages or kine-tapes, the results of which are very satisfactory.

Knee pain is a physical problem usually related to a recent or chronic injury. They are often caused by poorly treated injuries or other health problems.

Our knees also suffer from our body weight as well as other overloads due to sudden movements. In this article, we will discuss the main causes that cause these pains.

You will also learn about remedies that can relieve pain such as herbal remedies, oils, and other solutions.

Possible causes of knee pain

Here are the most common causes of knee pain:

  • Arthritis: inflammation of the joint.
  • Bursitis:  inflammation caused by overload or continuous strain on the knees.
  • Tendinitis:  inflammation of the tendons which can cause pain when running, jumping or walking briskly. Tendonitis of the knee can increase the risk of a severe tendon tear.
  • Ligament injury or rupture:  a frequent crunching or tearing sensation and sharp pain.
  • Meniscus  injury : it often occurs after a sudden movement of the knee and causes diffuse pain that can appear immediately or 2 days later.
  • Muscle distension or strain: this  is also a ligament injury, but of a minor level, which is caused by a sprain.
  • Baker’s cyst:  it produces inflammation due to the accumulation of fluid.

 Cycling and knee pain

You can suffer from chronic knee pain without being able to identify the problem. According to  traditional Chinese medicine, the kidneys could be responsible for these ailments, since they are connected to the knees.

So you have to take a look at this level to make sure that these organs are functioning well: the condition of your knees depends on it.

What to do ?

If you have an acute injury, then  the first thing to do is not to move. Apply cold and let sit. Also do tests with a specialist to have an accurate diagnosis.

If your problem is chronic, or if lesions appear for no apparent reason, consult a physiotherapist or professional osteopath.

You should even seek help from a therapist to benefit from the therapeutic adhesive bandage technique. Indeed, this technique is based on the use of elastic colored plasters which are generally used by high level athletes.

Then here are some natural and home remedies that can help cure knee pain problems:

Cabbage compresses

Cabbage (especially green) is an excellent anti-inflammatory food.

To make a compress, you will need to put the leaves in boiling water, then flatten them to release their juice.

After that, they can be put directly on the inflamed knee. Then cover with a cloth and put on aluminum or plastic foil. Leave this solution to work for at least 30 minutes.

Massage oils

It is possible to prepare a homemade therapeutic oil according to the temperature of the knee. It should then be applied daily to warm or cool the affected area:

  • If you have inflammation, swelling, or hot skin: use 50ml almond oil with 15 drops of mint essential oil.
  • If you have pain in your knees but your skin is cold: use olive or sesame oil with 15 drops of ginger essential oil.

St. John’s Wort oil

It is a very therapeutic oil that we can prepare ourselves. One of its properties is to improve blood circulation (also very useful for bruises, burns, scars, etc.). It also works as a very good natural antidepressant.

Fresh St. John’s Wort flowers must be macerated in olive oil for about thirty days in the open air. When the oil becomes reddish in color, it will be applied through a gentle massage 2-3 times a day on the affected area.

Arnica treatment

Arnica is certainly the best-known remedy for athletes and people with inflammatory problems. This is particularly the case thanks to its widespread use in natural and homeopathic medicine and thanks to its anti-inflammatory power.

This plant is found in the form of cream or gel in pharmacies and natural products stores.

If you choose homeopathy, you can combine it perfectly with the application of the cream. The remedy is known as Arnica montana 9 CH . You can take 3 granules under the tongue 3 times a day. They must be separated from drinks and strong and minty flavors (chewing gum, toothpaste, etc.).
