Vascular Spiders: 9 Tips To Avoid Them

To improve our blood circulation and prevent the onset of telangiectasias, it is not only important to exercise, but also to perform low intensity activities like walking your dog or walking to work.

Vascular “spiders” or telangiectasias are small, noticeable red or blue veins caused by dilation of capillaries and superficial vessels.  These marks can precede larger problems, such as varicose veins.

Usually, vascular spiders are not painful. The most common factors causing their occurrence are:

  • heredity
  • pregnancy
  • sudden changes in weight
  • sedentary lifestyle
  • hormonal changes
  • chronic constipation
  • taking certain medication
  • wearing tight-fitting clothes and high heels

To avoid the dilation of blood vessels, there is no safe method. However, there are some tips and good habits that will help you prevent the occurrence of this problem.

1. Improve your blood circulation to prevent the appearance of vascular spiders

Good circulation is essential for preventing and combating vascular spiders, especially on the legs. To regain normal circulation, consider the following tips.

  • Exercise regularly. You can run, walk, climb stairs, ride a bike, among others. Some less intense activities such as taking the dog out, cleaning the house, walking to work can also help.
  • Keep your legs elevated when you sit down.
  • If you have to sit or stand for a long time, do stretching exercises, change positions, and do movements that will help stimulate your circulation.

2. Control your weight

Tips for losing weight after the holidays

Overweight and obesity are two of the most common causes of spiders to appear,  as the pressure on your legs becomes greater.

If this is your case, you need to  lose weight and try to stabilize it.

3. Massage yourself regularly

A good massage is the key to improving blood circulation and preventing, or even fighting, the appearance of spiders.

Apple vinegar compresses will be your allies. Another tip: apply Aloe vera gel to the area in question and massage yourself in circular motions. Leave on for fifteen minutes.

4. Sleep with your legs elevated

Another way to keep the blood circulation working smoothly is sleeping with your legs elevated, we recommend that you put a pillow under your legs while sleeping on your back.

5. Improve your diet

Diet plays a very important role in the prevention and treatment of vascular spiders. It is recommended to increase the consumption of foods rich in antioxidants and vitamins C and A.

It is also important to reduce your salt intake, drink more water during the day, eat more fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish and grains.

6. Do exercises to tone your legs

Firm legs

Try all the exercises that work and tone your legs – these exercises will help you prevent and fight spiders.

Walking, stepping, running, jumping, pedaling can be solutions.

7. Avoid crossing your legs

Crossing your legs for a long time can slow down the blood flow and can therefore lead to the formation of spiders.

8. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

Clothing that is too tight and shoes with high heels influence the appearance of vascular spiders. It is very important to wear comfortable and loose clothing.

Lightweight shoes, without or with a very small heel, will also stimulate your circulation.

9. Apply sunscreen

The sun’s rays can make your problem worse. This is why we recommend that you use sunscreen if you are going to be out in the sun.

Remember to choose it according to your skin type and never forget it when you go out.
